A Modern Affair 2016

It’s not often we have the opportunity to be a witness to history, a fact that made last week’s Docomomo New York/Tri-State event at the Four Seasons restaurant both momentous and bittersweet. With the modernist landmark closing permanently on July 16, design community luminaries gathered to honor architect and philanthropist Phyllis Lambert, whose support for the the designer of the space, Philip Johnson, was seminal in its realization. More than 100 guests listened to Lambert reminisce about the genesis of the project. Co-chaired by Tami Hausman, Ph.D., of Hausman LLC and Meredith Bzdak, Ph.D., of Mills + Schnoering Architects, the fundraiser furthers the goals of Docomomo, a non-profit organization dedicated to the documentation and conservation of buildings, sites, and monuments of the modern movement. Architectural Record and The Architect’s Newspaper were media sponsors of the event.
